Despite only being founded in 2015, SpeedKore has quickly established itself as one of the world’s most eminent builders of high-performance restomods, with the Wisconsin-based workshop being best-known for its modernized, carbon-bodied muscle cars. And while SpeedKore already possesses an undeniably world-class body of work, the elite custom car builder has now unveiled what’s almost certainly its most ambitious and involved project to date with a vintage Dodge Charger that’s been dubbed “Hellucination.”

Built for Ralph Gilles — Stellantis’ Chief Design Officer and the renowned automotive designer that was the force behind models like the original Chrysler 300 and the 2014 Dodge SRT Viper — Hellucination began life as a 1968 Charger, though has since received an enormous slew of bespoke contemporary upgrades.
Touted by SpeedKore as its most “carbon fiber-intensive build to date,” the Charger has been treated to a one-off floor, wheel tubs, and a full set of custom bodywork that are all crafted from the lightweight material. Other carbon additions to the build include a front-hinged SpeedKore hood and custom front and rear SpeedKore valances.

Working directly with Giles, SpeedKore has constructed the Dodge around a custom frame that’s been paired with a Detriot Speed suspension setup. The project takes its name from its powertrain, a 7.0-liter Dodge Hellephant V8 crate engine that’s been mated to a ZF eight-speed transmission. Good for 1,000hp and 950ft-lbs of torque, the motor now ejects spent fumes through custom-fabricated headers and a bespoke exhaust with flush-mounted MagnaFlow mufflers.
Riding on a custom set of (19” F, 20” R) HRE “Hellucination” wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, the SpeedKore project also boasts an Ididit steering column, a Woodward steering rack, Brembo six-pot calipers, one-off LED head and taillights courtesy of Dapper Lighting, and a bespoke, heavily-modernized interior with a custom carbon dash, door panels, and interior quarter panels.
While its existing list of celebrity clients is a major feather in its cap, the fact that the shop is now building one-off projects for world-renowned car designers speaks volumes about just how elite SpeedKore’s builds have become. And, based on the increasingly stellar work currently coming from the Grafton garage, we can’t wait to see what SpeedKore conjures up next.
