The 1963 Chevrolet Corvette was the first ever car to be designed and built by Chevrolet, which is a two-seater sports car with a front engine and rear wheel drive. The year of release, 1963, is also the 50th anniversary of this iconic vehicle. The Corvette’s design has had many changes over the years but it still remains one of the most popular cars in American history.
The Chevrolet Corvette C1 was the first generation of the Chevrolet Corvette, produced from 1953 to 1962. The idea for the first Chevrolet Corvette came from a conversation between Harley Earl and General Motors president Charles F. “Boss” Kettering in 1953. It was originally called “Corvette-Kettering.” The car went into production on June 30th, 1953 and was introduced at the GM Motorama in 1954 where it won rave reviews.
Chevrolet had high hopes for this car but they were not met until 1955 when they sold over 20,000 cars. The C1 has a 327 cubic inch V8 engine which can produce up to 300 horsepower. This is more powerful than any other American sports car at the time.
